The Aplastic Anemia & MDS International Foundation, Inc., (AA & MDS) is a 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization with the following mission: to serve as a resource for patient assistance, advocacy, and support; provide educational materials and medical information; and to fund medical research to find effective treatments and cure for aplastic anemia, myelodysplastic syndromes, and related bone marrow diseases. Aplastic anemia results in decreased function of the bone marrow producing symptoms such as increasing weakness, fatigue, recurrent or persistent infections, and bleeding. In about 50 percent of cases, the exact cause is not known.
