Description

The CureDuchenne is a voluntary organization whose mission is to cure Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD). CureDuchenne focuses on supporting translational research with the aim of getting promising therapies out of the labs and into human trials as fast and as safely as possible. CureDuchenne creates awareness and raises funds from the DMD community as well as the general public. DMD is a rare muscle disorder that affects males almost exclusively and is usually recognized between three and six years of age. DMD is characterized by weakness and wasting (atrophy) of the muscles of the pelvic area followed by the involvement of the shoulder muscles. As the disease progresses, muscle weakness and atrophy spread to affect the trunk and forearms and gradually progress to involve additional muscles of the body.
